Weather Resistant Utility Poles
In late September of 2024, Hurricane Helene made landfall – forever changing the lives of millions. After making landfall in Florida, Helene would continue its destructive path through Georgia, bringing high speed winds, heavy rainfall, and severe flooding, according to AP News[1]. When viewing Helene’s aftermath from above, Governor Brian Kemp described the destruction below as “looking like a bomb went off”.
According to Georgia Power[2], Hurricane Helene was the most destructive storm in the company’s 140-year history. An estimated 8,300 power poles, 350 transmission structures, and 4,500 transformers were destroyed by Helene’s wrath. In some places, the damage was so severe that entire sections of the power grid had to be rebuilt.
Based on a report from the National Centers for Environmental Information[3], Helene has caused an estimated $79.5 billion in damages, making it the 7th costliest hurricane in U.S. history. With the majority of damage occurring in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, and parts of Tennessee and Virginia, decision-makers are actively seeking solutions that will minimize these damages caused by extreme weather events.
