Position Overview:
We currently have an opening in our Stoney Creek, Ontario office for a highly motivated individual with a strong work ethic to join our structural engineering team in the role of Structural or Mechanical Design Engineer.
The ideal candidate will play a key role in the design, analysis, and development of high-quality steel and aluminum arm and pole assemblies, collaborating closely with technicians and production teams to support successful product development. This opportunity is well-suited for an individual who thrives in a collaborative environment, exercises strong technical judgment, and is motivated by contributing to effective engineering solutions. This person will be an integral member of a structural engineering team that supports multiple divisions across the company.
Responsibilities:
- Conducting structural analysis and design of steel and aluminum poles and arms.
- Creating and maintaining 3D engineering models and production drawings.
- Analyzing destructive testing results to determine the structural capacity of pole and arm assemblies.
- Identifying potential issues and implementing solutions proactively.
- Preparing detailed engineering specifications and calculations.
- Supporting Marketing in the creation and maintenance of customer-facing specification sheets.
- Working with Sales and Production to ensure customer requirements are met and drawings are produced as requested and within established deadlines.
- Managing and overseeing engineering change notices, confirming required changes and ensuring they are accurately implemented.
- Providing technical leadership and guidance to Engineering Technicians.
- Traveling occasionally to job sites to assist with new product development and/or product support.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, or Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in metal design.
- Professional Engineering licensure is preferred.
- Extensive training and proficiency in 2D and 3D CAD software (Inventor preferred).
- Strong understanding of solid mechanics, beam theory, strength of materials, mechanical and welded connections of steel and aluminum, and related engineering fundamentals.
- Knowledge of aluminum casting principles (sand, permanent, mold, die).
- Experience with inventory management systems, including part creation and bill of materials (BOM) development.
- Experience with finite element analysis (FEA).
- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously in a fast-paced environment.
- Accountable and results-driven, with a strong attention to detail.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Excellent time management and organization skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work with MS Office Suite of products.
